Lionel Messi Expresses Disinterest in Becoming a Coach

Lionel Messi has opened up about his future beyond football retirement, expressing his lack of interest in pursuing a coaching career. Currently at the twilight of his playing days, the 37-year-old remains in excellent form with Inter Miami and the Argentina national team.

With Inter Miami, Messi has been impressive, scoring 20 goals in the MLS this season and leading the team to win the Supporters’ Shield after clinching the 2024 regular season title.

On the international front, Messi has also shone with the Argentina national team, guiding them to victory in the 2024 Copa America and securing the top spot in the CONMEBOL World Cup 2026 qualifiers.

Reflecting on his achievements, the 2022 World Cup champion expressed gratitude for his career, stating he prefers to savor the remaining moments on the field without dwelling too much on what lies ahead after retirement. “I don’t think I want to be a coach, but I’m not sure what I want to do in the future. I appreciate everything I do every day more than ever, so I’m just focused on playing, training, and having fun,” Messi shared in an interview with Fabrizio Romano for 433.

“Let people remember me however they want. I am very grateful for my career and for achieving everything I have thanks to God. My biggest dream was to win the World Cup, which I fought for a long time and required a lot of effort.”

“I’ve been fortunate enough to win everything with Barcelona, with the national team, and to have a beautiful life and family, so I am very thankful to God for all that I have experienced. I will let people remember me however they wish,” Messi concluded.
