Leo Gaucho Open to Naturalization for the Indonesian National Team

Borneo FC striker Leo Gaucho has expressed his readiness to undergo the naturalization process to play for the Indonesian national team. He feels very comfortable in Indonesia and wants to contribute to the country.

Gaucho joined Borneo FC at the beginning of the 2024/2025 season and has made an impressive start to his career with the club. The Brazilian forward scored three goals, leading Borneo FC to the final of the 2024 President’s Cup.

As the official competition commenced, Gaucho maintained his consistent performance, netting six goals by week ten of the BRI Liga 1 2024/2025. He also added two goals in two matches during the ASEAN Club Championship 2024/2025.

At just 23 years old, Gaucho possesses a strong goal-scoring ability and has significant potential for further development in the future. Although he hails from Brazil and has no Indonesian heritage, Gaucho is ready to fulfill the five-year residency requirement for naturalization in Indonesia.

“I am willing to be a naturalized player for Indonesia; I believe it’s very possible because I feel very comfortable here,” Gaucho stated in an interview on the YouTube channel Transfermarkt Indonesia.

“For me, this is a big opportunity to become a naturalized player and represent this great country. I really like it here. This is a significant chance to showcase my skills for an amazing nation,” he continued.

Before arriving in Indonesia, Gaucho had already played for several clubs in Latvia. He noted that the football atmosphere in Indonesia is excellent, contributing to his comfort and interest in representing the Indonesian national team.

“Football needs this kind of environment, not only in Indonesia but also in other countries because it’s really good here. It’s very positive for football, and I enjoy it a lot. I want to improve every day and at every moment,” Gaucho said.

“If there’s a possibility to play for the Indonesian national team, why not? I love it, and it’s a great opportunity,” added the former Valmiera player.
