Former Netherlands U-20 Midfielder Jordy Wehrmann Expresses Desire to Represent the Indonesian National Team

Jordy Wehrmann, a 25-year-old midfielder hailing from the Netherlands, is currently pursuing his dream of playing for the Indonesian National Team.

In his statements, Wehrmann indicated that he is actively communicating with the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) to learn about the steps and procedures necessary for his naturalization to join the Garuda squad. “I am in contact with PSSI to determine how I can represent Indonesia,” he noted, mentioning that he is inspired by the success of 13 Dutch-born players who have been naturalized and have played for Indonesia. “I know all of them, and I want to take that step as well,” he added.

Wehrmann first met with PSSI back in 2022, expressing his appreciation for the offer, although he was uncertain about the future at that point. “We have maintained communication, and now that I reside here and possess a work permit, the process has become more straightforward,” he explained.

With his work permit in hand, Wehrmann is optimistic that the path to his naturalization will be quicker and more efficient. “The initial step has been completed, and now it’s a matter of waiting for all the necessary documents to be processed so that I can represent Indonesia,” he remarked. This commitment illustrates his seriousness about becoming a member of the Indonesian National Team, which would add depth to the squad due to his experience and abilities.

In addition, Wehrmann shared how happy he would be to play for Indonesia. “It would mean a lot to my family if it happens. I believe my grandmother would be incredibly proud watching me play, whether on television or in the stands during matches,” he expressed.

He feels that this experience would hold greater value than a career at the highest levels in Europe. The player caught the attention of Indonesian national team coach Shin Tae-yong back in 2022, but at that time, he chose to concentrate on his club transfer process.
