Bruno Fernandes sent a heartfelt message to a Manchester United teammate who made his long-awaited return from injury after a lengthy 17-month absence.
The Red Devils are set to welcome back several key players from injury, including Mason Mount, Leny Yoro, Luke Shaw, and Kobbie Mainoo, all of whom are making significant progress in their recovery.
Manchester United’s new head coach, Ruben Amorim, ranked 11th on FourFourTwo’s list of top managers, is gearing up to take charge at Carrington in the coming weeks. He’ll be pleased to see many of his squad members nearing full fitness.
Bruno Fernandes expressed his support for Tyrell Malacia following his appearance for Manchester United’s Under-21s team. After being sidelined for 17 months due to double knee surgery, Malacia made a comeback by playing 45 minutes in their 4-1 loss to Huddersfield Town in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday.
Malacia had suffered the injury during a UEFA Nations League match in early 2023 and underwent two surgeries to address the issue in his home country.
Bruno Fernandes, who recently marked his 250th appearance for Manchester United, shared a post on Instagram celebrating Malacia’s return to competitive play. “Happy to see you back,” Fernandes wrote on social media. Although Malacia was substituted at halftime by Harry Amass, he appeared sharp and worked hard during his brief stint on the pitch in West Yorkshire.
According to The Athletic, Malacia’s first surgery did not go as planned, necessitating a second procedure in the Netherlands to remove additional cartilage from his knee.
Details about his injury were kept relatively private, partly due to some negative press and conspiracy theories surrounding his situation. Manchester United reportedly wanted to shield the player from further media attention during this difficult period.
Looking ahead, new head coach Amorim will be excited to have several players returning from injury. He may also opt to shift Manchester United’s formation from a 4-2-3-1 to a 3-4-3 upon his arrival.
After the international break, Manchester United will face Ipswich Town in Amorim’s first match as head coach, aiming to build on their latest Premier League result—a 1-1 draw with Chelsea.
